![]() In observance of National Assisted Living Week, September 7-13, Prairie View Assisted Living of Tilden is hosting events to bring together residents, families, employees and the surrounding community to celebrate the “Magic of Music.” “Music provide comfort, joy and enhances the lives of residents,” said Stephanie Clifton, Administrator of Prairie View Assisted Living. “This celebration recognizes the bonds build between residents and the assisted living professionals who are committed to providing residents with person-centered care and services.” The “Magic of Music” celebrates the role music plays in the daily lives of assisted living residents. Clifton said the theme also celebrates the bonds built between residents and their families, friends, staff, and volunteers that make the assisted living community a home for them. Some of the week’s special events include: Thursday, September 11: 4:30 p.m. - Resident, Staff & Family Hay Rack Ride and Soup Supper Friday, September 12: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Open House - John Peterson will provide entertainment at 3 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The Falcons were shutout until the final quarter, losing 53-6. Senior Sean Vanderford led the rushing attach with 50 yards on six carries. Tyler Rautenberg led the Falcons passing attempt, going 5-of-15 for 53 yards. Defensively, Noah Rutjens recorded nine solo tackles and six assisted. The Falcons (0-1) will travel to Stuart next week to face Stuart. The Broncos defeated Boyd County 42-8 on Friday. Hale shot a 168 for the Falcons. Lexi Schommer of Hartington Cedar Catholic held onto a two-stroke victory over Melissa Kyncl of Boone Central with a 90. Cedar Catholic won the team title with a 438 while Battle Creek shot a 443. ![]() The Elkhorn Valley volleyball team went 1-1 in its season opener on Thursday in Wausa. The Falcons defeated the host team in straight sets - 25-23, 25-20 and lost to Winside 25-17, 25-17. In the third match, Winside defeated Wausa 25-12, 25-9. Elkhorn Valley (1-1) will play in front of its home crowd on Tuesday when the Falcons host Neligh-Oakdale. ![]() The Smithsonian Institute Touring Exhibit, "Hometown Teams, How Sports Shape America," will be on display in the Lied Auditorium of the Tilden Library until September 15. Tour the exhibit and register to win a $100 gift card from Hibbett Sports in Norfolk. A special program will be held on Friday, September 5 as part of this exhibit. Beginning at 3 p.m., Sue McLain will present "It's Not Just About the Game." She will give a presentation about the fashions worn from 1890-1960 for both sports participants and their fans. The event will be held by the library fireplace and refreshments will be served. The exhibit is sponsored by The Smithsonian Institute and Humanities Nebraska. ![]() LeRoy Borgelt of Tilden recently received the Good Neighbor Award, sponsored by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation. The award was established to recognize Nebraskans who have performed neighborly acts and deeds unselfishly without personal gain. Borgelt was given the award for his volunteerism, giving a ride to those with medical or physical needs. He also delivers Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer for the City of Tilden during the Prairie Days celebration. As an army veteran, Borgelt serves on the American Legion honor guard firing squad at veteran funerals and volunteers his help at the Legion’s annual Rib Fest celebration and pancake feed. ![]() The Elkhorn Valley basketball program is hosting a 4-person golf scramble on Saturday, August 23. Teams will tee off at 9 a.m. at the Antelope Country Club in Neligh. The cost is $100 per team. Those needing carts must call Antelope Country Club at 402-887-5211. The freewill event will be held at the Peace Church Fellowship Hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Grilled hamburgers and brats, potato salad, beans and desserts will be served. Proceeds from this year’s benefit will be for Bridget Wells who is being treated for colon cancer. She is the daughter of Steve and Teri Wells of Tilden. |
