Noah Rutjens (152) and Chris Peterson (170) both will compete at the state wrestling tournament at CenturyLink Center in Omaha on Thursday. Plainview won the team title. Four Falcons earned medals, including Chris Peterson, who was runner-up at 170 pounds. Noah Rutjens placed 3rd at 152 pounds, Tyler Miller was 4th at 120 pounds and Ajejandro Martinez finished 6th at 106 pounds. ![]() Elkhorn Valley earned a third-place finish in the Niobrara Valley Conference wrestling tournament on Thursday night in Clearwater. The Falcons defeated Elgin Public/Pope John 30-15 in the first round, advancing to the winner's bracket. West Holt then defeated Elkhorn Valley 36-30 before Neligh-Oakdale topped the Falcons 60-18. West Holt defeated North Central 35-17. Round 3 Neligh-Oakdale defeated West Holt 61-12. Elkhorn Valley defeated North Central 36-18. 7.9 million. The free seminar, led by certified diabetes educator Vicki Brown, RD, will be Feb. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the TCH Medical Clinic conference room. The seminar covers pre-diabetes, what lifestyle changes individuals can make to prevent diabetes and other health problems. Topics include healthy weight, nutrition, cholesterol, high blood pressure and glucose levels. The event is sponsored by Faith Regional Health Services and Tilden Community Hospital. Elkhorn Valley students recognized for the 2013-14 school year were senior Anna Stineman, wind ensemble, french horn; junior Jacob Wiese, wind ensemble, percussion; freshman Tyler Miller, symphonic band, trumpet; sophomore Ranee Keehn, symphonic band, clarinet; and junior Courtney Rich and freshman Jacob Dusel, symphonic band, alto sax. Stineman, Rich and Keehn also earned All-State honors last year. Class D All-State band members will perform March 22 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. ![]() It was a tough day on the hardwood for the Elkhorn Valley basketball teams as both squads dropped first-round games in their first Niobrara Valley Conference tournament. The No. 13 boys fell 65-23 to No. 4 Boyd County on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater. The No. 11 girls lost 56-12 to No. 6 Clearwater-Orchard on Saturday night. |
