The Elkhorn Valley TeamMates Program is selling raffle tickets for a Husker volleyball, autographed by Nebraska Coach John Cook. Tickets may be purchased at the home volleyball game tonight vs. Boyd County, and the drawing will also be held tonight. Proceeds will go to the EV TeamMates Chapter. The Elkhorn Valley volleyball team played in their first ever "Pink Out" game when they traveled to Osmond on Tuesday, according to Coach Emily Vaughn. "It was hosted by Osmond, and through coordinated efforts, the Lady Falcons and Lady Tigers were able to raise more than $1,000 through T-shirt sales for the Carson Cancer Center in Norfolk," Vaughn said. She said the night was filled with emotions, following a C team loss and a JV win, the Lady Falcons varsity "played a great first set," winning 25-16. However, Osmond rallied to win the final three sets, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20. "The third set, the Lady Falcons struggled to score points," Vaughn said. "And even though we had some players come in off the bench to give us some energy, it wasn't enough. The final set of the night, the lead changed a few more times. Even though the Lady Falcons trailed 12-13, we pulled it together to take a 16-13 lead. Unfortunately, the Lady Falcons couldn't put much together after that." Elkhorn Valley (2-9) will host 6-9 Boyd County at home on Thursday night. Elkhorn Valley rolled over Palmer at home on Friday, 52-22. Juniors Tyler Rautenberg and Noah Rutjens led the Falcons in rushing, racking up more than 100 yards each. Rautenberg ran for 172 yards and 4 TDs, while Rutjens tallied 104 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively, Senior Jayson Larson and Rautenberg led the team with 12 tackles each. Palmer 0 0 0 22 22 EV 26 20 6 0 52 The 3-2 Falcons will travel to Hampton on Friday.

The Lady Falcons struggled to get much going in their home game Tuesday against the West Holt Huskies, according to Coach Emily Vaughn. West Holt defeated Elkhorn Valley, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-10. "Our intensity level wasn't where it needed to be to compete," Vaughn said. "Having a week off during the season can either help you or hurt you. If you have a couple of flat practices during that week, it can really carry over into your performance. We were just waiting all night for someone to step up so we could rally around them, and that never happened." The coach said her team "will have to bounce back quickly" as prepare to host a triangular on Thursday with two tough conference teams, EPPJ and CWC.
Elkhorn Valley swept Plainview in straight sets on the home court Tuesday, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-19. Coach Emily Vaughn said the Lady Falcons had a "more consistent serving night, and rallied behind their servers to keep the momentum." "Having a really strong first set really helped us to play calm and confident," Vaughn said. "Even in the final set, when Plainview came out with the lead, the Lady Falcons responded with some big plays of their own when they needed them." Elkhorn Valley is off the rest of this week, but will host Atkinson West Holt on Tuesday, Sept. 30. "We want to continue to compete at a higher level each game out, and to do that we know we need to continue to work and push each other in practice," she said.
