More than 400 students will participate in Elkhorn Valley's Annual Junior High Choral Clinic in Tilden on Friday, Nov. 6.
Students from 15 schools, including most of the schools in Antelope County, will attend the event. Students will put on a concert for the public at 5:30 p.m. in the Elkhorn Valley gym. Admission for the concert is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. There is no admission charge for children ages 5 and under. Creighton's gym was deafening Tuesday night as the Lady Falcons took on the North Central Knights for Subdistrict finals.
After dropping the first two sets, the team rallied and took the third. The Falcons had momentum heading into the fourth set, but fell short for a final score of 3-1. Set scores were 25-12, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19. The team had a total of 39 kills on the night and served up an impressive 8 aces. Junior Alyssa Rood led the team in digs with 18 of the team's 78. This will wrap up the season for Elkhorn Valley with a 19-9 season record. It was a close match up of the greens Monday night in Creighton as The Lady Falcons took on Clearwater-Orchard for the first game of subdistricts.
After dropping the first set, the Falcons came back to win the next two. Fans were on the edge of their seat as the game stretched to be a five set thriller. The Falcons took the game in the final set with a 3-2 victory over the Cyclones. Leading the Falcons for kills was freshman Hannah Ollendick with 22 of the team's 55. The team served up 6 aces and picked up an impressive 110 digs on the night. The 19-8 team will be back in action tonight in Creighton as they take on North Central at 7 p.m. The 26th Annual Hunter’s Breakfast and Raffle will be sponsored by the Tilden Rescue Squad on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Volunteers will be serving a hearty breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Parish Hall in Tilden. The menu will include biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, ham, sausage, coffee, juice, milk, and rolls for a free will donation. Raffle tickets can purchased from any Tilden rescue squad member. The raffle prize drawing for grocery store gift certificates, plus various miscellaneous and hunting items, along with the grand prize of a Weatherby 12 gauge shot gun or $400.00 cash, will be at approximately 9:30 a.m. You do not need to be present to win. The funds raised by the event will be used for ambulance equipment and training. A flu shot clinic will also be held at the Parish Hall during the breakfast for anyone interested. Staff from Tilden Family Medicine will give the shots for a $20 fee. A high school Halloween dance will be held in Tilden this weekend. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to the Halloween dance on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the Tilden City Auditorium. Those attending are encouraged to come in costume. The cost is $3 with a costume or $5 without a costume. Proceeds will go toward Elkhorn Valley Post Prom. Elkhorn Valley won its first match of the night Monday but later lost in the quarterfinals at the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament.
The Falcons kicked off the night with a 18-25, 25-13, 25-17, 14-25, 15-12 win over Boyd County. Elkhorn Valley then lost to second-seed St. Mary's 25-20, 25-8, 25-10. Elkhorn Valley is off the rest of the week in preparation of subdistricts next week. The Lady Falcons had a good night on their home court Thursday night, sweeping Bloomfield and Madison.
The first game against the Bloomfield Bees was a close game of three sets. The Lady Falcons picked up the first set 25-16 and pushed the Bees into overtime in the second but lost 24-26. Elkhorn Valley led Bloomfield by 12 points in the third set, winning 25-13. The Falcons put down 34 kills on the Bees and picked up an impressive 64 digs. The team served up a total of 11 aces on the night, four from Junior Liz Osborn. The second match-up against Madison resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Lady Falcons, 25-18, 25-16. Senior Ranee Keehn led the teams in kills against the Dragons with 7. The team served up 5 aces and picked up 58 digs. This leaves the Lady Falcons with a season record of 16-7. Up next, the #7 Falcons will enter the NVC Conference tournament. Their first game will be at St. Mary's on Monday October 26 against #10 Boyd County. If they win they will move on to face #2 St Mary's. The Falcons football team was in action on the road last night at Osceola.
The Bulldogs picked up the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter, but the Falcons answered in the second. Going into the half the Bulldogs led by only two points. The Falcons held off Osceola in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs picked up 28 points in the fourth, ending the game with a final score of 36-12. This leaves the Falcons with a season record of 3-5. Senior Chris Peterson of Elkhorn Valley has been selected as an alternate for All-State Choir.
He was among the more than 3,000 students in the state who auditioned. Less than 450 students were selected to be part of the 2015 All-State Chorus. Chris is the son of Bob and Tonya Petersen. The 2015 Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference will be Thursday, Nov. 19, through Saturday, Nov. 21. The concert will be Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus at 4:30 p.m. It was a good night for the Elkhorn Valley Lady Falcons on their home court Monday night.
The team picked up a 3-0 victory over the O'neill Eagles with set scores of, 25-20, 25-28, and 27-25. This win will leave the Lady Falcons with a season record of 14-7. On Thursday, they will be hosting a triangular with Madison and Bloomfield for their final match-ups before conference. |
