"Rock the Library Holiday Program" is planned on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Tilden Public Library Lied Auditorium, 202 S. Center St. in Tilden. The doors of the library's Lied Auditorium will open at 6:15 p.m. so that guests may enjoy light snacks and refreshments, compliments of the Friends of the Library. The show will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., with an intermission which will include holiday treats. Performing for this year’s program will be the very talented and highly acclaimed Talbott Brothers from Omaha. Born and raised in Imperial, Nebraska, brothers Nick and Tyler Talbott realized their love for music at a very young age, rehearsing and playing with friends in bands whenever possible. Described as the harmonizing rock duo with a folksy blues and rock style, the Talbott Brothers released their debut album, Leaving Home, in 2012. After performing in local and regional venues and completing a 17 show tour from the Midwest to the East Coast, including Chicago, New York and New Jersey, the band took from their experiences and wrote material for additional albums, "The Road" and "Coming Home." Their most recent album, "Places," was released in 2015. Since their formation in 2012, these singer/songwriter brothers have entertained crowds at more than 300 national shows coast to coast. “Bringing these groups to Tilden for holiday events is our way of thanking members of the community and surrounding areas for their support throughout the year,” said Library Director Cindy Simeon. Performing for this year’s program will be the very talented and highly acclaimed Talbott Brothers from Omaha. Funding for this free event is made possible with support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, along with the Tilden Library Foundation. Yesterday Claire Dittrich, daughter of Keith and Tammy Dittrich of Tilden, signed a letter of intent with the equestrian team for TCU – an NCAA Division I school located in Fort Worth, Texas. “Not only have horses changed my interests, but they have also changed my future,” Dittrich said. Dittrich was recruited by several colleges but decided TCU was the right choice for her for both athletics and academics. “TCU has everything I could ever want in one package,” Dittrich said. Dittrich will be competing on the TCU equestrian team in the sport of reining. Reining is a judged event designed to show the athletic ability of a ranch type horse within the confines of a show arena. Contestants are required to run one of 13 approved patterns given in the National Reining Horse Association Handbook. Dittrich has been riding for more than 10 years. Carol Nielsen of Nielsen Training and Serena Siebrandt of Siebrandt Training have been working with Dittrich since she was eight years old. Siebrandt trains all disciplines including English, Western, showmanship and trail, but her emphasis is on reining. “Reining is a little more of a difficult discipline. It has been included in the Olympics as a sport, along with dressage and jumping. It really does take more athleticism on a horse,” Siebrandt said. “The series of maneuvers that they do and to do them well takes a lot of athleticism from the horse and the rider.” Not only is Dittrich a serious reining competitor, but she has also taken on various leadership roles with the National Reining Horse Youth Association. Dittrich has served as a historian and treasurer in past terms and is currently serving as the vice president of the organization with plans to run for president in 2016. “It’s a really fun organization to get youth involved in the sport and promote the sport of reigning,” Dittrich said. Dittrich said she is really grateful for the support she has received from her coaches, school and family. “I would also like to thank my coaches for not just teaching me the basics, but prepping me for the future,” Dittrich said. “I would like to thank TCU for this astounding opportunity and Elkhorn Valley for giving me a great start. I would like to thank my parents for everything they have done for me. I cannot thank them enough for their guidance and compassion, and I know they will continue to support me in my future endeavors.” Students from all over Northeast Nebraska converged on Elkhorn Valley on Friday for the 45th annual Junior High Choral Clinic.
Participating schools were Elkhorn Valley, Clearwater-Orchard, Neligh-Oakdale, Pope John, Boone Central, Humphrey St. Francis, Lindsay Holt Family, Newman Grove, Norfolk Catholic, Randolph, Norfolk Junior High, Schuyler, St. Michael's, Wayne Middle School and Wheeler Central. Following the day's activities, students performed a concert in the evening as both a mass choir and in small groups. Local students performing in small groups were from Neligh-Oakdale, Pope John and Elkhorn Valley. Sheri Fraley was the guest clinician with Roni Branting as accompanist. Fraley is the music specialist at Elliott Elementary School within the Lincoln Public Schools district. Branting lives in Stromsburg and has been the Cross County Community Schools pianist since 2002. |
