![]() An Elkhorn Valley student was awarded an "Outstanding Merit" ribbon for his artwork at the ESU #8 art show. Sophomore David Short was recognized for his piece titled, "Cattleyas on a Vine." The fabric painting was entered in the textiles, fibers and batik category. Short is taught by instructor Rebecca Munson. The annual art show is being held in the new 4-H exhibition building at the Antelope County Fairgrounds in Neligh. The public is invited to view the display until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Approximately 650 pieces of artwork are on display from 13 area schools, including all of the Antelope County schools. The show was judged by Deb Fonder, a retired art teacher from Norfolk and Mike Hassler, a Wakefield art instructor. ![]() Antelope County track athletes have been selected to particpate in eight events at the elite Norfolk Classic meet on Thursday. Three athletes were also chosen to be alternates. EPPJ: Blake Schrage of Elgin/Elgin Pope John was selected for the 300 meter hurdles. His time of 43.13 seconds is the sixth fastest coming into the meet. EPPJ's Ryan Pelster was given the tenth slot for the 3200 meter run with his time of 10:48.73. For the EPPJ girls, Taylor Schumacher has the seventh fastest time in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:32.81. Clearwater-Orchard: Andy Kerkman's 6-foot, 2-inch jump landed him fourth in the high jump heading into the meet. The Lady Cyclones' 4x800 relay team is sitting in fifth with a time of 10:47.00. Team members are Kylie Thiele, Kinzly Macke, Mallory Cooper and Abbey Kester. Kylie Thiele has also been selected to compete in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. She has the third fastest 400 meter dash with a time of 61.74 and the second fastest 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.12. Ryann Ickes and the girls 4x100 relay were named alternates for the meet. Ickes has a time of 13.24 and the relay of Ryann Ickes, Kinzly Macke, Kylie Thiele and Hannah Rittscher clocked a 53.25. Elkhorn Valley: Ranee Keehn leaped 33 feet, 8.5 inches for the eighth spot in the triple jump. A French toast breakfast will be held on Sunday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Tilden. A bake sale and raffle are also planned. All proceeds will help with medical bills as Theresa recovers from two ruptured brains aneurysms. ![]() The Tilden Public Library will present “Gardening with Ginny” on Friday, April 25 at 2 pm in the Lied Auditorium at the library. Expert gardener Ginny Werkmeister will teach you how to create your own “Salad Bowl” garden with herbs and vegetables. For those who would like the hands-on experience and take their Salad Bowl home with them, Ginny will have all the supplies needed for a small $10 fee. Or, you can just come to watch and learn. Ginny will also be available to answer your gardening questions or concerns. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon! This event is sponsored by the Tilden Library Foundation. Refreshments will be served. The Elkhorn Valley boys earned fourth place and the girls were tenth in Division 2 of the meet. Winning the division for the boys was Wausa with 116, followed by North Central with 94, and CWC with 79. The Elkhorn Valley boys placed fourth with 75 team points. The boys 4x100 meter relay team narrowly edged out the competition, winning the relay with a time of 47.39. Wausa's team placed second with a 47.93. The bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until all items are sold out. Homemade pies will be sold for $12 each, and prices on other baked items will vary. All proceeds will benefit the hospital's physical therapy department. ![]() Tilden’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held this week. The Easter Egg Hunt is set for Friday, April 11, beginning at 3 p.m. at the City Auditorium. Kids are invited to collect eggs, get candy, and register to win an Easter basket!
