Neligh-Oakdale started strong on Tuesday in Creighton before ultimately falling to the strong Bulldog squad in three sets.
The Warriors battled the tough Creighton team in the first set, nearly taking it from Creighton. However, the Bulldogs came away the winners on the night in straight sets 26-24, 25-18, 25-14. Full stats will be added as they become available. Another night, two more wins for Elgin Public/Pope John.
The Wolfpack hosted St. Mary's and St. Francis in a home triangular on Tuesday, coming away with two big wins, thanks in large part to senior Grace Henn. Against the Cardinals, EPPJ got the win 25-8, 25-17. Henn finished the match with a game-high five kills on her seven attempts. She also added one ace. As a matter of fact, the whole team had a great night serving as they finished with 12 aces. Allyson Wemhoff and Calli Krebs recorded four of those aces, each. Kaylee Martinsen, Heather Bauer and Nicki Payne each added one more. Against the Flyers, it was another straight-set victory for the Wolfpack, 25-21, 25-20. Henn again led the way with seven kills, finishing with 12 total on the night to lead EPPJ. Paige Meis put down seven kills as well and Lydia Behnk recorded six more. Elkhorn Valley and Osmond continued their tradition of teaming up to go pink to start October, and the Falcons got a little bonus to end the night.
On the strength of their great serving, Elkhorn Valley took a commanding win over Osmond in three sets, 25-12, 25-18, 25-17. With the night being the traditional Pink Out match up between the Falcons and the Tigers, coach Emily Vaughn said the energy was great. "We're always just really excited for our Pink Out. Its become a great tradition with Osmond," she said. "We just talked a lot about keeping our energy and keeping our focus. With the way the season has gone the past couple weeks, we just talked about having a fresh start. Having a home game and a Pink Out was a good time to do it." While the student section counted 20 aces on the night, the official stats gave Elkhorn Valley 17, an impressive number. Seven of those came off the hand of Amber Miller, many in the third set to put the game away. Hannah Ollendick added five more, Bri Werner had two and Kirstyn Evans, Olivia Nall and Sierra Rystrom all recorded one ace each. "I think once one of us gets on, then that encourages everyone else to maybe serve a little harder and push. I think we were all coming together and really wanted this win because we've kind of been in a funk lately, but I think we're going to be on the high road from here," said Miller. Ollendick and Rystrom led the attack at the net, recording seven and six kills, respectively. That kept Miller busy as she recorded 14 assists. She also led the team in digs with 15. Two more wins under Clearwater-Orchard junior varsity’s belt now has them sitting at 4-1 on the year.
Last week, the Cyclone JV took down Chambers/Wheeler Central/Ewing on the road in shutout fashion, 16-0. Using an aggressive defense, the Cyclones continually pressured CWCE’s offense, in turn giving Clearwater-Orchard strong field position all night. The first quarter scoring started with a ten-yard touchdown pass from Austin Pokorny to Tristan Ahlers. On the following defensive series the aggressive Cyclone defense would sack the Renegade QB in the endzone for a safety. O-C would control the second half as well, putting one more touchdown on the board early in the fourth quarter on an Eli Macke one-yard run. The defense then took control and completed the shutout for the win. Then on Monday against Osmond, the Cyclone JV once again got the win, 18-6. After a Macke touchdown run gave O-C the lead, Osmond answered to tie the game at six going into the halftime break. However, the second half was all O-C, thanks to a big showing on special teams. Macke returned the opening kick back 75 yards for a score to put the Cyclones up 12-6. Donaven Nolze then got in on the action, blocking an Osmond punt. The final score of the game came when Macke took it 30 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to put the game away. The Elkhorn Valley homecoming game on Friday afternoon was one to remember, with St. Mary's coming into town for a shootout.
Unfortunately for the home team, Elkhorn Valley was unable to come out on the winning end of the thriller in a 46-36 loss. The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 20-0 lead before Elkhorn Valley scored 14 unanswered points to send the game into halftime with the Falcons trailing 20-14. Both scores came from the arm of Braedyn Ollendick as he connected with Josh McFarland and Brock Schaecher. Adam Miller aided in the comeback with an interception in the second. St. Mary's got the lone score in the third quarter as the two teams set up for what proved to be an exciting final frame. The Falcons got the scoring started in the fourth when McFarland dove in from a yard out to bring the score to 26-22. St. Mary's answered before McFarland found the end zone again to make it 32-28 with 7:42 to go in the game. However, the Cardinals returned the ensuing kickoff for a score to extend their lead yet again. But McFarland scored once again, aided by a strong passing drive by Ollendick. That brought the score to 40-36, but the Falcons were unable to get a stop as the Cardinals drove down to put the game away. McFarland finished with four total touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving. He put up 127 total yards and was strong defensively as well with a game-high 19 tackles. Ollendick added 216 yards through the air and two scores. His leading receiver was Brock Schaecher, who pulled in four catches for 101 yards. Mitchell Petersen added another four catches for 63 yards and Miller had three grabs for 14 yards. Defensively, the Falcons were all over the field. Gavyn Clause had the lone sack on the day. Prestin Vondra racked up 16 tackles while Miller and Schaecher added 12, each. Elgin Public/Pope John continued to weather their tough schedule, battling but ultimately falling short against Howells-Dodge.
Howells-Dodge jumped out to a quick 38-0 lead after one quarter of play before the Wolfpack were able to get on board, sending the game into halftime with EPPJ trailing 58-8. In the second half, EPPJ shut out the Jaguars while adding 14 points, falling 58-22. Hunter Reestman had a hand in all three of the Wolfpack scores, throwing for two touchdowns and running for the other. He finished the day with 80 yards passing, 49 rushing and six tackles. Conor Ramold had the only other Wolfpack pass completion, going 23 yards to Kyle Schumacher. He also finished as the lead rusher for the Wolfpack with 15 carries for 56 yards. Cameron Nielsen added another 45 yards on 10 carries. Schumacher finished the day with four catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Clearwater-Orchard kept its record unblemished on Friday, taking down Boyd County in a Friday afternoon showdown.
The Cyclones dominated the Spartans on the way to a 62-6 victory. They held a strong 42-0 lead at halftime and were able to cruise in the second half to the win. Clay Thiele had a huge night for O-C. Offensively, he was the main target of quarterbacks Blake Hoke and Chris Kester, pulling in five catches for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he tied for the team high with five tackles, pulling down a game-high two sacks. Another Cyclone with a big night was Eli Macke. The freshman busted off a 50-yard run as part of his 101 rushing yards and two scores on just eight carries. Creston Bertschinger added 64 more yards on the ground, scoring once. Through the air, Hoke finished with a team-high 132 yards on 12-of-17 passing with four touchdowns.
Neligh-Oakdale's cross country team celebrated parents night during halftime of Friday's football game.
Warrior seniors are Rachel Higgins and Courtni Heckert. They are coached by Rick Eickholt. Neligh-Oakdale brought out the broom Thursday night to end its week of three triangulars with a home sweep. The Warriors picked up a pair of wins against Emerson-Hubbard and Pender.
With the wins, the Warriors end the week at 4-2, after going 1-1 at both Stuart and Plainview. In the opener, Neligh-Oakdale defeated the Pirates 30-28, 25-16. Amanda Dietz had seven kills while Bailey Frey and Jaclynn Hixson each had five. Kristen Snodgrass led the defense with 12 digs, and Haley Kerkman had another 11, plus 15 set assists. Against Pender, Neligh-Oakdale won 25-14, 27-25. Dietz and Frey led the Warriors with six and four kills, respectively. Kerkman had a team-high four aces in the win while Frey picked up 13 digs. Neligh-Oakdale will be back in action on Tuesday at Creighton. Five Antelope County runners finished in the top 20 at the fiercely competitive West Holt Invite on Thursday. There were 78 runners in the girls race and 103 in the boys contest.
Alison Stineman of Elkhorn Valley crossed the finish line in 21:13 for 5th place, followed by Emma Bixler of Neligh-Oakdale in 8th with a time of 21:31. In the boys race, Hunter Bennett and Brayden Effle of EV earned 7th and 8th place, with times of 18:02 and 18:10, respectively. Cole Belitz of Neligh-Oakdale ran a time of 18:28 for 12th place. N-O Coach Rick Eickholt said Emma Bixler and Cole Belitz set course records for Neligh-Oakdale. He said Bixler's time was 19 seconds faster than the record previously held by Kasi Grosserode, and Belitz ran 16 seconds faster than Tyler Pedersen's record. "I was pleased with everyone's efforts, especially the boys team performance," Eickholt said. "I'd like to give a special shout out to Christian Carothers. Don't let anyone ever say that cross country is a noncontact sport. Christian was hit in the head with a tree branch and put a large gash in the top of his head, causing him to have to momentarily stop to wipe blood from his face and eyes." For team standings, the Neligh-Oakdale girls were 9th overall, the Elkhorn Valley boys were 6th, and the Neligh-Oakdale boys were 7th. Neligh-Oakdale's Madi Grosserode was 34th, Hailey Bixler 42nd and Rachel Higgins 48th. Audrey Chvala of EV was 77th. For the N-O boys, Griffin Claussen finished in 26th, Christian Carothers 28th, Cameron Wilkinson 31st, Jose Luna 64th, and Logan McConnell 69th. For EV, Isaiah Greenhalgh was 32nd, followed by Dillon Stewart in 34th, and Damian Smith 39th. Both teams will be back in action next Friday when Boyd County hosts the Niobrara Valley Conference meet. The junior high football season is halfway done, and the results could not be much better for Neligh-Oakdale.
Through three games, the Junior Warriors are unbeaten at 3-0. They are winning by an average of nearly 30 points a game and have given up just 26 total points all year. The season started off against Creighton, with NOJH storming to an impressive 34-6 victory. Led by quarterback Aiden Kuester, the Junior Warriors amassed 289 total yards, 204 of which came on the ground. That was made possible by the excellent line play of Bradyn Tschirren, Landyn Schrader, Gavin Longsdorf, Austin Rudolf and Cameron Schindler. Through the air, Kuester had 70 yards and three touchdowns while adding 84 yards on the ground and a fifteen yard reception on a trick play from Carson Whitesel. Talon Krebs added 107 yards on the ground. Carson Jones pulled in 60 yards receiving, including a 40 yarder to get the scoring started in the first. Kuester then connected with Ty Rix and Jones again to put the Junior Warriors up 20-0 after one. Krebs dashed for a 61 yard score in the second to give Neligh-Oakdale Junior High a 28-8 lead at half. The second half was a quiet one, with the only score coming in the fourth on a 30 yard run from Krebs. The next week, the Junior Warriors took on Plainview, again winning 34-6. Much of the scoring was done in the first quarter, with Kuester and Jones connecting from 20 yards out to give NOJH a quick 8-0 lead. Kuester then did the work all on his own, sprinting 40 yards to the end zone for another score to give the Junior Warriors a 16-0 lead after one quarter. In the second half, Kuester added a two yard sneak for another score as well as a second touchdown connection to Jones before Krebs put the game away with a five-yard run. While the offense did plenty of scoring, the defense saved the game throughout the day, including a touchdown-saving tackle at the end of the first half by Jesse Green to keep Plainview scoreless. The third game was another big victory, this time with the Junior Warriors taking home a 46-14 win over nearby Elkhorn Valley. Kuester and Jones kept their strong connection alive with an early 35-yard score. The extra point failed and for the first time all year, NOJH trailed after one quarter of play. However, they battled back in the second, starting with Kuester’s eight yard scoring run to tie the game at 14. He connected with Jones from 10 yards out to put the Junior Warriors up 22-14 at half. In the second half, Kuester scored from two yards out before Rix added a 13-yard score to put NOJH up 38-14. The final dagger came when Kuester and Jones met once more, this time for a 71-yard scoring strike to put the game away. Rix led the way behind the big Junior Warrior line with 70 yards on the ground. Kuester added 40 and Krebs put in 23. Kuester put in another 168 through the air, with 146 going to Jones. Rix added another 15 yards receiving and Whitesel pulled in seven yards receiving. Defensively, the Junior Warriors had four interceptions and a fumble recovery. They were led by Krebs, Rix, Kuester and Jones, each of whom racked up five tackles. The season will continue on Monday, October 2 when they take on St. Mary’s in O’Neill. The Clearwater-Orchard volleyballers continued their hot streak on Tuesday, this time taking down two opponents at the Boyd County triangular.
One of those opponents was the host school, who the Cyclones topped in straight sets 25-20, 25-17. Boyd County had no answer for Clearwater-Orchard's JoCee Johnston, who knocked down 12 kills at an impressive 70.6 percent clip. Grace Rittscher had a big day as well, putting down three aces to lead the Cyclones. She was all over the court defensively, bringing up 22 digs as well. Their other win of the night was a dominant one, taking down Niobrara/Verdigre 25-16, 25-15. Johnston had another strong effort, putting down eight kills. However, this time she got plenty of help at the net as Brooklynn Chipps and Avery Cheatum did some work as well, recording five and four kills, respectively. Those three got plenty of help from their setter as Julian Tuttle finished with 21 assists. The University of Nebraska has brought back a Husker legend to serve as the interim athletic director while the search continues for a permanent replacement.
The university announced on Tuesday that Dave Rimington will fill the role until a permanent athletic director can be hired. He most recently served as the president of the Boomer Esiason Foundation, a spot he will take a leave of absence from until the permanent position is filled. The interim tab has been placed on Rimington for 60 days. "I'm so pleased that we could count on Dave Rimington, who is a Husker through and through, to answer our call to lend his administrative expertise and unwavering support for Nebraska Athletics during this key time of transition," Chancellor Ronnie Green said. "I am confident that Dave will provide exceptional leadership as we move forward in our search for a new, permanent director of athletics." As the president of the Boomer Esiason Foundation, Rimington was responsible for developing educational programs and raising funds for scholarships to benefit those who have been affected by cystic fibrosis. "I am humbled and grateful to accept this responsibility," Rimington said. "I look forward to working with the coaches, staff and student-athletes at Nebraska, which is a truly special place that has had a profound impact on my life and the lives of countless others." Rimington played football for Nebraska in the early 1980s where he was named as a two-time all-American. The Omaha native is considered by many to be the greatest center in college football history. He was a two-time Outland Trophy winner and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997. The Rimington Trophy is given out to the top center in college football each year and was created in 2000 in his name. The Neligh-Oakdale volleyballers were able to break their recent slump on Monday night as they took down one of their two opponents at the Stuart Triangular.
They started the night against the host school, nearly pulling off a two-set victory but ultimately falling short in a 25-18, 21-25, 10-25 loss to the Broncos. The Warriors got a big night at the net from Amanda Dietz, Bailey Frey and Jaclynn Hixson. The trio accounted for nine, seven and six kills, respectively. Haley Kerkman spent the night spreading the ball around well to her hitters, recording 24 assists. Next up, the Warriors were able to break through and get the win, taking down St. Mary's in straight sets 25-20, 25-15. This time around, it was freshman Trinity Kurpgeweit that led the attack, putting down six kills. Dietz and Shelby Pitzer added four more kills each. The big story of the game was the skill the Warriors showed at the service line. As a team, Neligh-Oakdale recorded 16 aces, including eight from Frey and five from Kerkman. The Falcons' trip to the Scribner-Snyder Invite proved to be a fruitful one this past weekend as Elkhorn Valley went 2-1.
They got wins over Oakland-Craig and Winnebago, taking a loss to Ponca on Saturday. The win over Oakland-Craig was a tense three-set battle, with the Falcons coming out on top 25-17, 22-25, 25-22. Hannah Ollendick played hero in the game, putting down an impressive 14 kills and two aces. Sierra Rystrom was a perfect compliment to Ollendick as she added seven more kills and three aces. Bri Werner added another three aces to help the Falcons to the victory. The win over Winnebago was a bit less strenuous, as the Falcons won in straight sets 25-15, 25-10. Karissa Evans took her turn leading at the net, putting down seven kills. Ollendick added six more and Amber Miller accounted for three aces. Against Ponca, Elkhorn Valley's fortunes took a turn for the worse as they fell 25-20, 25-19. It wasn't for lack of effort, however, as they recorded 22 kills as a team. Ollendick took credit for seven of those, Rystrom added four more while Evans, Werner and Miller each accounted for three others. The ladies of Elgin Public/Pope John didn't do much resting over the weekend as they traveled to West Holt on Saturday for a couple of battles.
The came home from Atkinson with two more wins to their name, taking down both Plainview and West Holt. Against Plainview, EPPJ took it in straight sets 25-14 and 25-15. The Wolfpack had a three-headed monster at the net, with Grace Henn, Kaylee Martinsen and Lydia Behnk recorded seven, six and five kills, respectively. Paige Meis also did some work for the Wolfpack, putting down two aces. Against West Holt, the Wolfpack took home the win in a true three-set battle, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25. This time, Henn, Behnk and Meis provided all the firepower the Wolfpack needed. All three recorded nine kills apiece. EPPJ again got a big game from the service line as well, recording seven kills. Allyson Wemhoff was responsible for five of those and Nicki Payne recorded the other two. Defensively, Haley Zegers had an incredible game at the net, recording six total blocks. Payne and Calli Krebs were also tough, recording four blocks each. Antelope County cross country runners earned five medals at the hot and windy Boone Central Invitational in Albion on Friday.
"For the second week in a row, running conditions were anything but ideal with temperatures in the mid-to-low 90s and constant 20+ mph winds," Neligh-Oakdale Coach Rick Eickholt said. "I thought we competed very well against a very large and talented pool of runners. The girls had 88 entries and the boys had 160 entries from 18 schools with several large Class C schools." Individual awards are given at the Boone Central Invite according to their grade in school, Eickholt said. The top five in each grade receive medals for their efforts. Two Warriors claimed medals in one of the largest meets of the season. Emma Bixler of N-O finished 5th overall and 2nd in the sophomore division with a time of 21:24, and Cole Belitz ran a 17:46 for 6th overall and 3rd in the junior division. For Elkhorn Valley, Alison Stineman was 1st in the sophomore division, Hunter Bennett was 2nd in the freshman division, and Brayden Effle was 2nd in the senior division. The Neligh-Oakdale girls finished 6th as a team and the boys were 8th. "Emma Bixler had another very competitive race finishing 5th overall, which is one of our highest overall finishes ever at this meet," Eickholt said. "Even more impressive is that for the second consecutive week, Emma finished in front of someone who beat her during week one." I felt we had "really solid team performances," as both teams finished inside the top 10, he said. "Rachel (Higgins), Madi (Grosserode), and Hailey (Bixler) all finished within five places of each other in the overall race results and all were in the top 39," Eickholt said. He said Cole Belitz was also able to beat runners that had beaten him earlier in the season. "Cole’s 6th place overall finish is the highest overall individual finish ever for us at this meet," Eickholt said. "A really strong finish for Cole moved him up from about 9th to momentarily moving him into 4th place running down the final stretch before being edged out at the finish line." He said Christian Carothers and Griffin Claussen ran "nearly the entire race stride for stride" and finished only 1 second apart. "I really felt that competitiveness helped them push each other throughout the race," Eickholt said. "Cameron Wilkinson also had a really strong finish, passing multiple runners down the final straight away. I was also very pleased continued progress of freshman Dominique Wright. Also noteworthy is that Christian cut 3:22 from last year’s time and Cole 1:36." Results: Emma Bixler 21:24 2nd sophomore div 5th overall Rachel Higgins 25:46 7th senior div 34th overall Madi Grosserode 26:28 10th junior div 37th overall Hailey Bixler 26:31 9th sophomore div 39th overall Cole Belitz 17:46 3rd junior div 6th overall Griffin Claussen 19:58 8th freshman 42nd overall Christain Carothers 19:59 11th junior 43rd overall Cameron Wikinson 20:54 13th junior 60th overall Logan McConnell 22:52 19th junior 99th 5th overall Dominique Wright 26:25 26th freshman 131st 8th overall JH Thomas Johnson 21st 9:53 (1:28 faster than last year) Ashton Higgins 29th 10:06 Vance Chancce 54th 11:15 Ethan Gregory 76th 14:00 (95 JH boy entries) Neligh-Oakdale was unable to hold on to an early lead on Friday when they took on Howells-Dodge.
The Warriors were the first to jump on the scoreboard, but were unable to hold on to that victory. They held a 6-0 lead after one quarter thanks to a 38-yard strike from Hunter Charf to Jayden Arehart. However, the size and run game of the Jaguars was able to wear down Neligh-Oakdale en route to a 46-12 win. "We're running into teams that are bigger and stronger than us. Our lack of depth started to show in the second half as they just wore us out. We only gave up 35 rushing yards in the first half but couldn't continue that through the whole game," said Warrior head man Ron Beacom. Neligh-Oakdale's other score came when Arehart returned a Howells-Dodge kickoff 79 yards for a score in the third quarter. Although the scoreboard didn't show a result the fans wanted, Beacom said he was glad to see the effort his team gave. "In all, this was probably the best overall game we've played this year," Beacom said. "Howells-Dodge is a very good football team and we competed really well for the majority of the first half." Arehart finished the day with 205 all-purpose yards to lead the way for the Warriors. They also got 110 total yards out of Andrew Herley, 50 of that coming on the ground and the remainder on kick returns. Austin Rice was the leading receiver, pulling in five catches for 45 yards. He was the favorite target of Charf who went 7-of-14 on the day for 83 yards. The big day from a variety of players was exactly what Beacom was hoping for from his team after a week off. "I'm really excited about the growth we showed from the first three games to now," Beacom said. "I told the kids I was disappointed after the Clearwater-Orchard game because I didn't feel we competed with our best effort that night. I have no complaints after this one. We left everything out on the field. If we can continue to see the practice field as an opportunity for growth, we will be very successful." The rocky season continued for the Elgin Public/Pope John football squad on Friday as they fell to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
The Wolfpack struggled to find the end zone until late in the contest, not scoring until late in the third en route to a 46-14 loss to H/LHF. EPPJ got scores from Hunter Reestman and Cameron Nielsen on the night. Reestman's came on a 47 yard dash to the end zone while Nielsen's came on an 18-yard scramble for six. Reestman finished with 77 yards rushing while the touchdown proved to be Nielsen's only carry of the night. Juan Lopez added another 25 yards on four carries. Reestman also led the way through the air, passing for 64 yards on 9-of-13 passing. Four of those completions went to Conor Ramold, who mustered up 11 yards. Adam Dreger hauled in three grabs for 27 yards and Kyle Schumacher added 26 yards on two catches. Defensively, Schumacher accounted for nine tackles, Nielsen had seven and Ramold, Liam Heithoff and Carter Schindler recorded six tackles each. On homecoming night, Clearwater-Orchard used a powerful running attack to take the win over Ainsworth and remain unbeaten on the year.
The Cyclones rode the legs of Creston Bertschinger and Chris Kester all night on their way to a 46-0 victory. Kester got things kicked off with the first two scores of the night to put the Cyclones up 16-0 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Bertschinger took his turn scoring, diving in from a yard out and again from four yards out. Kester then took an end around off the edge in for another score to give the Cyclones a 38-0 lead at the half. The final score of the night came when Blake Hoke connected with Kester for a ten yard touchdown with 8:30 remaining in the game to seal the win. Bertschinger finished the night with 141 yards rushing and two scores. He also racked up eight tackles and pulled in two interceptions. Kester finished with 73 yards and three scores on the ground, 48 yards passing and 26 yards receiving. He added another interception as well for the Cyclones. Defensively, Clay Thiele had a big night with eight tackles and a big 18-yard sack. Zach King added a sack as well and Eli Macke gave the Cyclones a fourth interception. The offense struggled to get going for Elkhorn Valley on Friday in a showdown with Bloomfield, who's offense couldn't seem to be stopped.
The Falcons were only able to grind out just 87 yards of total offense compared to the Bees 524 yards as EV fell to the Bees 76-8. The lone Falcon score of the night came courtesy of a Josh McFarland run in the third quarter. He finished the night with 32 yards on the ground and eight more receiving. Those eight yards were part of Braedyn Ollendick's 49 yards passing on six completions. Two of those completions went to Brock Schaecher, who finished with 33 yards receiving. The University of Nebraska announced today it has fired Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst and will immediately begin the search for his replacement.
“Shawn has led Nebraska Athletics in many positive ways, but those efforts have not translated into on-field performance,” Chancellor Ronnie Green said. “Our fans and our student-athletes deserve leadership that drives the highest levels of competitiveness, as well as excellence across all facets of Husker Athletics.” Clearwater-Orchard added two more wins to its record Tuesday night as the Cyclones swept Neligh-Oakdale and host Osmond.
Against Neligh-Oakdale the Cyclones sprinted to a big first-set win with a more back-and-forth set in the second. The Warriors pulled ahead in the third set and looked to complete the rally until the Cyclones came alive and stole the momentum and the win. The high-caliber match took its toll on Neligh-Oakdale, which showed both fatigue and the let down with a 2-1 loss to Osmond in the nightcap. Osmond won 16-25, 25j-18, 25-18. Clearwater-Orchard 25 23 23 Neligh-Oakdale 20 25 21 Clearwater-Orchard 25 25 Osmond 22 13 Neligh-Oakdale 25 18 18 Osmond 16 25 25 The Falcons volleyballers did a little bit of everything on Tuesday night as Elkhorn Valley topped Plainview in straight sets.
The Falcons took down the Pirates 25-20, 27-25, 25-16 thanks to some impressive performances from a number of players. Hannah Ollendick led the attack at the net with her 11 kills. Bri Werner added six more and Amber Miller accounted for five. Leading the attack at the service line was Sierra Rystrom. She finished the night with four aces on 17 serves. Werner and Ollendick added two more each and Miller added another. Rystrom was also the defensive leader at the net, recording three blocks. Leading the way in the back court defensively were Olivia Nall and Jasmine Wiese. They each pulled up 16 digs for the Falcons in the win. Rystrom and Miller each added 14 more digs, Ollendick added 12 and Werner had 10. |
