Throughout his career as a Cornhusker, Tyler Legate had to work for every opportunity, and on Saturday night he brought that message to Oakdale for the Oakdale Alumni Banquet.
Legate says he was very fortunate to play when he did, as former coach Bo Pelini was just taking over the reins of the storied Husker football program. At that time, the walk on program was just coming into play for the program, and Legate was one of 40 kids who had the opportunity to walk on for the Big Red. Once inside the program as a part of the practice squad, Legate says he had to fight tooth and nail for every inch in practice. Legate: “Didn’t take nothing from nobody, you had to fight and if there was a fight you were right in there doing it. Coaches can see you know? You got 150 guys on the team and only 11 play at a time.” Legate says he greatly enjoyed his time as a Husker, and especially enjoyed playing under Coach Pelini, who he described as a players coach. As far as the new order of things for the Big Red, Legate says Coach Riley seems like a great addition that he believes will represent Nebraska well. By ACN News Partner, US92 |
