A car struck a semi on Highway 275 Sunday morning near Mr. S's convenience store in Oakdale.
According to the Antelope County Sheriff's Department, both males in the Grand Am declined medical attention at the scene. Both individuals in the semi were uninjured. The driver of the semi, Chris Sammons of Greenwood, Mo., said he was eastbound when struck by a westbound 2001 Grand Am owned by Zach Williams, 21, of Piqua, Ohio, around 6:15 a.m. Sunday. The car was driven by Chase Underwood, also of Piqua. Williams was sleeping in the passenger seat at the time of the crash, he said. Williams and Underwood are currently residing in Neligh and said they were returning from working on installation of the new substation. Sammons said the Grand Am overcorrected and crossed the centerline, striking the semi's trailer, which is owned by EARP Distribution of Kansas City. Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, according to officials. The accident remains under investigation by the Antelope County Sheriff's Department with traffic control still on scene by the Oakdale Fire Department. A fire east of Oak Creek Ranch on Sunday night is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
According to Oakdale Fire Chief Art Griffith, the Oakdale Fire Department was called at 6:09 p.m. Sunday to a fire about a half-mile east of 843 Road and 523 Ave. The land is owned by the Duane Dinslage Trust. Griffith said the grass fire destroyed about an acre of land and had nearly put itself out by the time the 10 firefighters arrived on scene with a pumper truck and two grass rigs. Firefighters sprayed several hot spots and remained on scene waiting for the fire marshal to arrive. "It looks like a grassfire, but we don't know what caused it," Griffith said. "The fire marshal will investigate." The fire wrapped around the edge of a cell phone tower and was also near a meter box. No one was injured in an accident south of Oakdale on Saturday morning, according to the Antelope County Sheriff's Department.
A Dodge Caravan headed north into Oakdale on the Taylor Avenue veered off the blacktop and ended up deep in the ditch and remains on its side. No occupants were injured in the accident. Fire Chief Art Griffith said about a dozen firefighters responded to the call at 605 Hohman, owned by Sarah Schultz. "We got the call that there was smoke at this residence," Griffith said. "When we arrived, the fire was extinguished and the oven door was open." According to Schultz, her daughter was at home cooking a pizza and called the fire department when smoke filled the residence. Schultz commended her daughter for calling 911 immediately and said when she arrived at the home, there were flames coming from the oven. The family then extinguished the fire. Griffith said there may be some smoke damage in the home. The fire department remained on scene ventilating the home. A brother and sister duo from Oakdale claimed three medals recently at the Holt County Invite for 4-H shooting and archery.

The Oakdale Fire Department was called to a fire four miles south of town at about 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night.
According to officials, the fire is being investigated as electrical in nature. It reportedly was extinguished by the homeowner when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Throughout his career as a Cornhusker, Tyler Legate had to work for every opportunity, and on Saturday night he brought that message to Oakdale for the Oakdale Alumni Banquet.
Legate says he was very fortunate to play when he did, as former coach Bo Pelini was just taking over the reins of the storied Husker football program. At that time, the walk on program was just coming into play for the program, and Legate was one of 40 kids who had the opportunity to walk on for the Big Red. Once inside the program as a part of the practice squad, Legate says he had to fight tooth and nail for every inch in practice. Legate: “Didn’t take nothing from nobody, you had to fight and if there was a fight you were right in there doing it. Coaches can see you know? You got 150 guys on the team and only 11 play at a time.” Legate says he greatly enjoyed his time as a Husker, and especially enjoyed playing under Coach Pelini, who he described as a players coach. As far as the new order of things for the Big Red, Legate says Coach Riley seems like a great addition that he believes will represent Nebraska well.
