With more than double the voter turnout seen in the primary election, new leadership will be seen next year in many of the contested races from the general election in Antelope County.
Tuesday’s election drew 2,560 of the 4,472 registered voters to the polls for a nearly 57 percent voter turnout. The primary election in May saw 1,058 voters. Antelope County Clerk Lisa Payne said she’s not sure what got the attention of voters in this election. “You could’ve knocked us over this afternoon when they kept saying they needed more ballots,” Payne said. “We ran ballots everywhere. We have no idea, but it’s awesome, we absolutely love it.” Click here for all of Antelope County's unofficial results. Click here for statewide election results. The Antelope County Ag Society’s ballot measure narrowly passed, 1199-1104. Three new commissioners were elected. Dean Smith defeated Jerald Schwager, 349-121; Tom Borer edged out LeRoy Kerkman, 300-276; and Alan Bentley ran unopposed in the general after defeating Eddie Schindler in the primary. Area school boards will have some new faces as well with the top three vote getters being elected. Neligh-Oakdale’s newest board member, Kevin Hild, tallied the most votes with 687, followed by Kenny Reinke, 682 and Ryan Koinzan, 465. Incumbent David Wright received 390 votes. For Elgin Public, incumbent Lisa Welding garnered the most votes with 347, followed by Todd Heithoff, 336 and Ron Bode, 270. Luke Hinkle received 255 and Janet Koinzan, 221. Clearwater will have one new face as incumbents Tom Thiele and Regina Krebs retained their seats and will be joined by Steven Thiele. Orchard’s board remains the same with Terri Hergert, Nathan Schwager and Candice Hoke receiving the most votes. For the Neligh City Council, Brent Pickrel and Ted Hughes were the top vote getters. Steven Stearns, Steven Hankla and Kevin Filsinger will serve as the Clearwater Village Trustees, and the Oakdale Village Trustees are Jude Freeman, Ryan Dietz and Karen Berg. Payne said the canvassing board is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and she estimates it will take two or three days to make the results official. |
